Seems pretty self explanatory, right? RIGHT! I was so moved when I started really thinking about all of the ways I could put this word to use this year. I opened my Bible and started reading verses to go along with my new word. I found the perfect scripture.
Colossians chapter 3 verse 12:
Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
(If you get a chance, go ahead and read the entire third chapter. It's a good reminder for all of us to hear.)
We are God's elect people. He chose US. He wanted US. He loves US. I believe that in this scripture, God is asking us to change our wardrobe around a little bit. I can hear Him talking to some of us stubborn people now:
"Hey you, why don't you put on this gorgeous scarf made out of mercy. It will go perfect with that outfit. Oh, what about these adorable boots of humbleness, they're just your size! I also found this cute jacket of meekness, it would go great with that top that has longsuffering written on it!"
Okay, maybe I'm silly, but I'm a visual learner. The point is, WE are the elect of God and He wants us to put on these things.
So.
Back to my word of the year. After reading this scripture and really thinking about these things God wants us to have in our lives, I decided that I would live the whole year by the word better.
This year I want to be better.
A better wife.
A better friend.
A better daughter.
A better sister.
A better listener.
A better giver.
A better Christian.
A better example.
A better forgiver.
A better neighbor.
A better Bible reader.
A better woman of prayer.
A better person.
I hope to strive this year to constantly think about the things in the scripture I mentioned and to put them into action in my personal life. Every day I want my word for 2012 to be the first and last thing I think about. This year, I've thrown away all other New Year's resolutions and have just kept one:
I want to be better.
Take time this week and pray about your word for 2012. I hope you feel as inspired as I did to get started! :)
